Blood Plasma Treatment FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

What is Plasma used for the treatment?

Plasma is a fraction of your own blood drawn out and spun down to create a concentrated plasma substance with platelets, fibrin and growth factors then reapplied topically and injected in target areas to create improved tissue health and enhanced appearance.

Platelets and fibrin are very small cells in your blood that are involved in the clotting process. As they organize in the clot they release a number of enzymes to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting stem cells to repair the damaged area. When used in injured or sun- and time-damaged tissue they can induce a remodeling of the tissue to a more healthy and younger state.

What Can It Be Used For?

Your blood plasma can be used in speeding healing of open wounds, in tendon and other musculoskeletal injuries and in problems like arthritis. This treatment is used for benefits by orthopedic surgeons, for hair loss treatments and for facial rejuvenation.

For aesthetic purposes, this treatment can effectively be used to greatly improve under eye dark circles as well as skin texture, lines and wrinkles. By placing it into the deeper skin layer fibroblasts and other cells can be stimulated to a more youthful function. Under eye areas and necks can show dramatic improvement. Lines around the lips and mouth can also improve.

Who Will Benefit From It?

Anyone who is using cosmetic treatments for lines, wrinkles, poorer skin condition and general skin reconditioning can be improved with plasma therapy. Persons who have had problems tolerating products for these sorts of procedures will be encouraged by the fact they are using purely their own cells and tissues. The most dramatic results so far have been in the crepey skin problems in areas such as under eyes, necks and decolletage areas as well as for premature hair thinning, hair loss. Human growth factors in the plasma provide an effective and natural treatment for persons wanting to address thinning hair on the scalp.

How Is It Done?

A tube (or two depending on areas to be treated) are drawn off in much the same way blood is taken for blood testing. The blood sample is spun for around for a period in a centrifuge to produce the plasma substance.

The substance is then drawn from the tube into a small syringe. A small amount of calcium chloride solution is added to the syringe to stimulate the process. Once ready, the plasma substance is then injected in the cleaned anaesthetised skin in either small lines or tiny dots in the deeper skin layer.

For a Facial Rejuvenation Treatment, the substance can be both injected into areas of the face and also microneedled topically into the facial skin.  For Hair Restoration Treatment, small amounts of the plasma substance are injected into the thinning hair area in a 1 cm pattern on the scalp or temples or other area as needed.

For facial rejuvenation or for hair restoration improvements your body's plasma is instilled into the treatment areas for four sessions usually spaced 1 month (4 weeks) apart.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

For cosmetic applications for face or for hair loss treatment, four treatments are recommended. Plasma treatments for facial rejuvenation or hair restoration are typically completed about 4 weeks apart.

How Quickly Do The Results Show?

To those people wanting improvement in skin texture and structure, they may be aware within a week of some early changes. But the effect and improvement is also a gradual process with changes continuing to show for three to six months after the treatment. For Hair Restoration treatments, the effects can start to be seen 3-4 weeks after the first treatment.

How Long Does It Last?

The effect has been shown to last about two years. This can be different for different people.

Can The Treatment Be Repeated over time?

As you are using your own body cells there is no problem with continued use. Some people elect to do a single session each year to boost and lengthen the effect of the initial group of treatments.

Are There Side Effects?

Since the patient is using their own biological material there is virtually no risk of allergic or other adverse reaction due to the plasma substance.   After the procedure, there may be a short-lasting pinkness or quite a redness of the skin. Bruising or bleeding is always a possibility in a substance is injected. Flaking or sloughing of the skin is also common a couple of days after (if receiving this treatment in conjunction with Microneedling procedure).  Most people are able to return to work the following day (with a little makeup applied).  All side effects may take up to a week or so to resolve.
